Jamila Russell

Jamila RussellJamila Russell was born and raised on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Jamila is a well-known community activist, radio talk show host, disability rights advocate, political strategist, and media consultant. The mother of two sons Lauritz and Shashamani, she is a lover of all things Virgin Islands.

Jamila has an extensive background in political strategy and research and has been on staff as the Legislative Director for Senator Donna A. Frett-Gregory. Prior to joining Senator Gregory’s staff, she served as the Chief Researcher for Senator Alicia V. Barnes and served as the Territorial ADA Director under the Mapp Administration.

Jamila’s voice is known to the people of the territory as she is the host of the popular “Just Jamila” radio talk show on WSTX – 970 am. Jamila began her radio broadcast career on WSTX – 970 am in 1999 under the tutelage of Maria “ChiChi” Heywood. Since that time, she has grown her audience and her brand. She is well known for her independent positions on issues that impact the people of the place she loves – the Virgin Islands. Passionate in her delivery with dashes of humor, she engages and connects with her audience weekly.
